Competitive Tryouts & Placement
Player Tryouts: Why They Matter
Players looking to join the Colorado Rush competitive program and all current CO Rush players must attend our annual tryouts held in late May - early June. Tryouts are the primary avenue through which new talent is evaluated and placed on appropriate teams that align with each player’s skills and potential for growth.
While a single tryout session may not capture a player's full potential, it provides a valuable baseline assessment. This initial evaluation helps us match players to teams where they can best develop their skills and achieve their soccer goals. It’s the first step in our comprehensive evaluation process that continues throughout the year, allowing us to fine-tune each player’s placement based on ongoing observations and their developmental progress.
Who should attend tryouts?
- New Players not currently registered with Colorado Rush.
- All Current CO Rush Players must attend the designated tryout times, as it is the final step in their evaluation process.
What is your evaluation criteria?
During tryouts, our coaching staff focuses on a range of attributes to determine each player’s suitability for different teams within the Colorado Rush framework. Here’s what we look for:
- Technical Abilities: Skills with the ball, including dribbling, passing, and shooting.
- Tactical Understanding: Awareness of game strategy, positioning, and decision-making on the field.
- Physical Attributes: General fitness, speed, agility, and endurance.
Psychological Factors: Mental toughness, attitude, teamwork, and the ability to handle pressure and adversity.
What if I can't make tryouts?
Interested in joining Colorado Rush but missed the tryouts? No problem! We offer open training opportunities where players can join practice sessions with existing teams. This allows both the coaches and you to assess the best fit for your developmental needs before committing to a team.
Do you have open training opportunities?
Any player who is interested in joining the Colorado Rush Competitive division can do so at anytime! There is no need to wait until tryouts. Players are invited to train with a Colorado Rush team in their respective age group to determine the best developmental placement for them. Please complete the interest form at the bottom of this page if you are interested in an open training opportunity.
What about U9-U10 players?
Upcoming KickaroundsU9-U10 players are placed on teams at our seasonal Kickarounds, based upon current and potential skill level. Rush Coaches will evaluate players and organize teams by age, gender, and skill level.
