Lessons Still Being Learned – Day 5 of Alumni Week

PDF Print 12.21.11 -_winnersday5“After all we’ve learned while playing at Rush, it’s amazing that we continue to learn…that we have to continue to learn. Yesterday we were taught a lesson on how to play by the team of coaches and senior alumni, but today we learned again that you have to win when it counts or else nobody will remember you.” These were powerful words shared by team captain Paolo DelPiccolo after losing in golden goal of the finals this morning at Denver Sports Center. After DelPiccolo and vice-captain, Morgan Sacco, hand-picked their team for today’s competition it looked like they would cruise to the title on day five. After a stunning opening two rounds of soccer by the young alums, they seemed to be unbeatable. However, Coach Dominique Hoecherl brought her team together, rallied the troops prepared for battle. When Stephen Keel pounded home the game winner in extra time of the championship game, pandemonium broke out. Wes Hart led the cheering from his goal mouth, where he resided all day, which was ironic since it was his first win of the day. Jeb Brovsky’s play was inspirational and the ever consistent Tyler Conley was a key component. Kenny Tribbett, a.k.a. the Quiet Assassin, was also instrumental along with Loupee, Harry and Robinson. Cornacchia and Boomer at the end of the day provided the experience to help guide the group past the team of youngsters. Sacco added, “I guess there’s always next year.”
Not so fast Morgan, buck up little cowboy.  There is one more day of Rush Alumni Week. Tomorrow the dedicated alums will fight the snowy conditions and compete at Foothills Indoor at 10am (drive safe!). Other notes: Nick Cardenas played with a suspended pass after the discipline committee ruled him ineligible for his harsh treatment of Bushey on day 4. (Karma big man…karma.) Mike Piserchio took a vacation from Vegas to come join us for his first day of Alumni Week. This is important to record in writing because otherwise, one would have never known he was there today. Coach Fowler who scored the first volley goal of his life on day 4, failed to hit the broad side of the proverbial barn today.
One day to go everybody!
