Want to see what Rush Cup is all about? See the video below for a quick glimpse. Rush Cup has been a celebration of Developmental Soccer for a number of years now. Rush Cup is a 2-day event for U5-U14 Boys and Girls Developmental teams and is designed to give every Rush team the opportunity to play in an exciting tournament-like atmosphere. Sportsmanship and fair play shall be emphasized above all else during this event.
Rush Cup is organized in a ‘Festival Format’ in which game results will not be recorded and there will not be semi-final or final games. Each team will be scheduled to play at least 3 matches. In the past, Rush Cup has been a ‘Tournament’ for teams U9 and older, however, this has not been in line with the Rush Developmental philosophies. We hope in taking the emphasis away from winning, the result will be a more positive atmosphere for the coaches, spectators and most importantly the players.
We hope that every Rush Developmental Team will join us on April 14th and 15th for a fun and exciting weekend of soccer. If you have any questions or concerns about this event, please contact Mike Piserchio, This email address is being protected from spambots. FORMAT
LOCATION The location of the event will be finalized as soon as permits are issued. Please check back for updates by March 1st. COACHING EDUCATION As part of this year’s Rush Cup we will be offering a Coaching Education Session for all Developmental Coaches on Saturday, April 14th from 12:00-1:00 PM. We will not be scheduling any games during this time so every coach will be able to attend. Food and drinks will be provided to those who participate. SCHEDULING Please be respectful of the application deadline, Wednesday April 4th. This will enable us to have schedules posted at the link above by Monday, April 9th. This is a 2-day event and every team must be prepared to play on both Saturday and Sunday. We will schedule around all Cross Quad, Option 1 and Southwest Quad games. Scheduling requests will only be considered in the case of emergencies. All teams must be prepared to start play at 8:00 AM on both Saturday and Sunday.
REFEREES U5-U8 games will be organized similar to regular league games. Parent monitors will be on the field to help keep the game going, there will not be a referee. For the older age groups, referees will be provided through the help of the Rush Competitive program. U14-U18 players give back to the Developmental branch by volunteering their time and referee all games during the event. These Competitive Players, like all referees, deserve the utmost respect on and the off the field. Any spectator, coach or player who does not show respect to the referees will be asked to leave Rush Cup and may be subject to further disciplinary actions. AWARDS Every player in Rush Cup will receive a Certificate of Participation. Also, the following team awards will be given at the conclusion of the event. Referees will evaluate each game and submit candidates for the following awards. The Developmental Staff will then choose winners based upon the feedback from the referees. Sportsmanship Award – Will be awarded to the team who’s Players and Coach demonstrates the most support and respect for their opponents. Best Passing Team Award – Will be awarded to the team who connects or attempts to connect the most passes during their games. Stingiest Defense Award – Will be awarded to the team who allows the fewest goals throughout the event. Best Attacking Team Award – Will be awarded to the team who attacks with most creativity and flare. Dribbling, passing, shooting and scoring will be considered. Sideline Behavior Award – Will be awarded to the team whose supporters show the most positive support for both teams during matches. The sideline does not “coach” or “shout instruction” to the players. Top Coach Award – Will be awarded to the coach who demonstrates game in and game out, sincerity, passion and empathy. He/she does not coach only to win games but teaches sportsmanship and respect. Enjoyment of the players is the coach’s first priority.
