Functional Training
This program is based upon the principles of the functional training defined by the USSF.

Tactical Functional Training
Training that is specific to a role or position. Takes place in the area of the field where the player operates. The player will determine which skill is necessary to solve the demands of the game as dictate by the game. Decision making is the essence of this method of training.

Technical Functional Training
Training that is specific to a position or role of player. It takes place in the area of the field where the player is positioned; the technique to be trained is predetermined. Maximum repetition of the technical skill is provided in the activity, while increasing pressure to make it more like the game, at optimal time of success.

Technical/Tactical Functional Training
The isolation of specific technique(s) in a tactical situation. The practice should be organized to create repetitions to allow the players' technical ability to be trained in a tactical situation. It involves both the technique and the decision made to meet the demand of the game

Functional Training Program Information
The functional training program is open only to U15 though U18 Nike Teams.

All Functional Training sessions will meet the need of the age group of players selected. The U15 and U16 will do, for the most part, technical functional training as their need is to develop the technique of execution through repetition. The U17-U18, who are more experienced, will do technical/tactical functional training as their need is to utilize the specific technique in a specific tactical situation through repetition.

U15 and U16 will train together as will the U17 AND U18. the maximum number of players that may participate in a session will vary but limited to eight.

The Director of Coaching Academy Seniors will communicate to the coaches involved in the program the monthly schedule with the theme or training topic that will be developed each week during the training session. It will be the responsibility of the Head Coach to choose the players for that particular Functional Training session. The Director of Coaching Academy Seniors will provide a weekly report to the head coaches about the development of the players in certain areas.
