Rush Festival Recap: Aspen Ferraco (08.11.10)
(Aspen Ferraco, back row second from left, provides her thoughts on the 2010 Rush Festival)
For the second straight year, Kansas Rush hosted the U12 Rush Festival. This yearly event brings together all the U12 boy’s and girl’s teams from across Rush Nation. The teams had four days of training, lectures and matches. The opening ceremony is where the “live draw” was held to see who will play who. Although the weather was hot and humid, all the players put forth a tremendous effort and showed great Rush spirit!! The following article was written by Aspen Ferraco, a member of the Colorado Rush GU12 Nike team (now GU13).
The upcoming GU13 Nike team recently visited Olathe, Kansas for the Rush Festival. It was blistering hot with around three hours of soccer a day. It was definitely our best experience as a team. The time we had together gave us a chance to get to know each other and bond. The Hawaii girl’s team was also staying at our hotel so we were all instantly friends. We spent a lot of our free time hanging out, making up handshakes, and hula dancing with the Hawaii team. Even though we played them twice, after games we were all still good friends. Those girls aren’t our only new nation wide friends though; we met some girls from Michigan, Virginia, Iowa, Texas, and many other states. Also the tournament was very beneficial to the team’s ball skills and spirit. At every game our team gave one hundred percent which paid off and got us to the championship game against Hawaii. Unfortunately we lost in a shoot out. But no one hung their heads. At the closing ceremonies we were given the spirit award for being at all of the Colorado boy’s games and making up our own Colorado Rush cheer. So we went home with the experience of a lifetime and an award. I could not have been a better tournament.

Angeli Named WPS Player of the Month (08.05.10) - Updated 8.16.10
Colorado Rush super-star alum Jordan Angeli has been named the WPS Player of the Month after scoring four goals and adding and assist in the month of July while leading the Boston Breakers to a 5-1 record. The award marks the first time that a Rookie has won the Player of the Month Award.
Jordan recently took some time to talk about her first year so far with the Breakers: JA: “It has been challenging. There is definitely a big adjustment going from college to playing with some of the best players in the world. I’m trying to take every day as a learning experience and improve every day. But it has been really fun! I feel like I have been constantly evolving as a player.”
Rush: What has been the biggest challenge moving from college soccer to the professional ranks? JA: “The level of play, the speed of play is just quicker. You are under pressure as soon as you get the ball. That has been an adjustment to make. Also, just dealing with being a professional. You have all this time on your hands (that you didn’t with school), so I have been figuring out how to prepare myself, both mentally and physically, to play every day.”
Rush: You have been on a tremendous goal-scoring streak of late. How does it feel to be such a big part of your teams’ success? JA: “It feels awesome! I just have been in the right place at the right time. I’ve always just tried to work hard and know that good things will come from hard work. My teammates have been giving me good balls that are easy to put away. It’s been fun but what matters most is that we have been winning. If I am scoring and we aren’t getting results it’s a different matter. The past month and a half the team has been playing really well and that is very exciting.”
Rush: You’ve scored 5 goals on the season so far. Which one has been your favorite? JA: “I would have to say… I had a volley goal from 25 yards out. I don’t really remember it happening, I was so in the moment but once I went back and watched it I was like ‘Wow that’s pretty good!” Editors note: Click here to see Jordan's goal. (search 7/12-Boston Comes From Behind to defeat Atlanta- 1:11 into highlights)
Rush: There are a few weeks left in the WPS season, what is it going to take to make the playoffs and make a run at the title? JA: “Well as of now we are sitting in a good spot. We are in third place and have the chance to take over second if we win this weekend. Overall we are in a great spot. We just need to build on this momentum and keep improving everyday. We are really trying to take things one day at a time. Our goal at the moment is to earn a first round bye.”
Jordan and the Breakers take on the Philadelphia Independence on Sunday. Click here for more on Jordan’s Player of the Month Award.

Sarah Wagenfuhr Earns All-Conference and All-League Honors (08.02.10)
(Sarah Wagenfuhr defends against Vancouver Whitecaps) When Sarah Wagenfuhr’s WPS season was abruptly put to a halt with the folding of St. Louis Athletica, she might have thought her year was over from a competitive soccer stand point. She had her offers but a decision to come home to Colorado and play for her club helped her gain further personal recognition, and honors for her club. Not only did she help put the Rush W-League team on the map, she led the younger players and in the process earned national awards. Not only did Sarah (Wags) garner All-Conference Team awards, she was recognized as one of the best 11 in the country and was named to the USL W-League All-League Team. Congratulations Wags!

Brunworths Return From Brazil (07.24.10)
(Kaitlyn and Jamie Brusnworth (3rd and 7th from left) recently returned from Brazil) Kaitlyn (U16 Swoosh) & Jamie Brunworth (U14 Nike) recently went on a People to People trip to participate in the Zico Cup in Brazil. They met up with kids from all over the USA and trained at the Itu Soccer Resort, prior to the tournament. There they met their Brazilian coaches and had an awesome time training and playing futsal. After three days at Itu, they went to the Olé Academy for the tournament. Jamie's U15 team ended up winning their division. Kaitlyn's U17 team had a tough draw and only won one game. They both had an awesome time and made many Brazilian friends. After the tournament, they traveled to Rio de Janeiro and both Kaitlyn and Jamie played on the girls all-star team against a Botafogo womens team. Jamie also got to walk out on the field with a player on the Botafogo men's pro team before their group enjoyed watching a Brazilian professional game. Throughout the trip, they had the opportunity to play with and against Brazilian kids on the field, beach, and futsal courts. It was an amazing opportunity to experience the soccer culture of Brazil! Many special soccer relationships were made and in the future Kaitlyn and Jamie are hoping to bring some Brazilian soccer players to Colorado to experience Rush soccer.
Rush Wins Gothia Cup!!! (07.24.10)
For now they gotta believe us, for now they gotta believe us, for now they gotta believe ussss... For we have won the cup!!! After their 3-2 victory over Boo IF, the Colorado Rush are champions of the GU15 age group at the Gothia Cup. Rush's Brittney Stark started the scoring off early in the first half, when she pounced on a loose ball in the box, and buried it in the back of the net. Boo answered back with a goal of their own a few minutes later. A nifty combination at the top of the box freed up a Boo striker who slotted her shot under a diving Sabrina Macias to level the score at 1's. Brittney Stark gave Rush the lead again when she followed up Gabbi Miranda's blast from 25 yards out. Stark completed her hat trick just before half. Kerri Marquadt got on the end of a Ashely Mages' cross and hit the cross bar with her shot. Stark was there to clean up the rebound as she headed it in from close range. The second half saw a few good chances from both sides. Boo hit the cross bar from a long range shot midway through the second half. In the final minute, Boo converted a pk on a questionable foul in the box. Rush killed off the final minute of the game and came away with a 3-2 victory sending the players and fans into a frenzy! Brittney Stark was selected MVP of the match after scoring three goals. "Oh When the Rush," could be heard throughout the city, as the girls were taken away from the stadium on a convertible bus and driven all around town. Picture of the game, the celebration, and players' comment will be available soon.

Membership, each uniform is so important to these kids, each one makes a difference. This is called our R.E.A.C.H. program, Rush Equipment Assisting CHildren. You are helping kids feel part of a team…the Rush Soccer Club. Help those boys and girls, consider donating your old uniform! Thank you. Tim Schulz, President & C.E.O. of Rush Soccer.
