Academy Boys Finish Showcase Weekend 4-1-1 Updated (06.02.10)
(93's First 11 vs. Birmingham United)
(91's First 11 vs. Birmingham United)
Academy Boys Finish Showcase Weekend 4-1-1 The Boys competed against FC Westchester from New York and Birmingham United from Alabama in their last two games. The 16’s battled to a 0-0 draw against Westchester after the 18 Boys dismantled the New York boys, who are division leaders in the northeast, 7-0. Justin Miller put the Rush Boys on the board just 19 seconds into the game and the Boys never looked back. Miller would add another goal as well as a couple assists. Abdoulie Jatta was a hat trick hero on the day with three goals of his own. Seedy Bah and Baboucarr Jammeh also added goals on the day while Famara Bojang earned his second consecutive shutout of the weekend. On the final day, which was perhaps the hottest day of the weekend, the 16’s earned a 1-0 result with both Liam O’Connor and Erich Marscheider sharing time for the shutout. Matt Marchena scored the winner in the early stages of the game. The 18’s conceded their first goal of the weekend and would have to come back from a one goal deficit. Justin Miller was again on target after a sublime pass from Seedy Bah to make it 1-1. Reid Hukari came on at half time and when a foul was whistled in the box, Hukari stepped in to take a (cheeky) penalty to provide the 2-1 lead which was enough for the victory. This weekend’s games mark the end of the season for the 16’s. The 18 Academy currently sits atop the Frontier Division (with no games remaining, though other division opponents still have games in hand), but regardless of division finish, the Boys have earned one of the top seeds going into the playoffs, which begin June 25 in Greensboro, NC.

Rush Academy Boys Split in First Games of Showcase (05.30.10)
(93's First 11 vs. Baltimore Bays Chelsea)
(91's First 11 vs. Baltimore Bays Chelsea) The U16 Rush Boys started off the beautifully hot and sunny day in Sarasota, Florida with some of their best soccer of the year. Some excellent wing play and nice combining up high gave way to a one shot-one goal half for the Baltimore Bays Chelsea (last year’s U15 USYS national champions). The second half started similarly to the first with the Boys playing well. Some simple mistakes were punished which happens against top teams, and a good performance was shadowed by a 3-0 result. The 18 Rush Boys kicked off straight afterwards at 2pm. The fields are nice and are easily the nicest (and softest!) the Boys have played on all year. The Rush Boys played solid soccer from start to finish with some wonderful soccer moments. A Paolo DelPiccolo corner kick was finished off by Reid Hukari and then a fine combination play between Abdoulie Jatta and Hukari led to a well-deserved penalty kick which Hukari finished off straight down the middle. The 2-0 lead at half would stick, though a couple more chances were created in half two, and the game would finish with a 2-0 win. Famara Bojang earned the shutout. Both teams play FC Westchester Sunday morning.
Academy Teams Head to Spring Showcase (05.28.10) The Colorado Rush/AJ Auxerre US Development teams will head to Florida this weekend for the 2010 Spring Showcase in Sarasota. Both the 91's and 93's will play their final three games of the regular season.
The 91's head into the weekend with a narrow lead in the Frontier Division and will face some very tough competition. Saturday, the Rush will play the Baltimore Bays who lead the Mid-Atlantic division. The opponent Sunday will be FC Westchester (First in Liberty Division) followed by Birmingham United on Tuesday, June 1st.
Academy Ends Play in Colorado with Win and Loss at Real (05.17.10)
 (91's First 11 vs. Real)
(93's First 11 vs. Real) The 16 Academy fell to Real 2-0 on Saturday morning. After defeating Real in the first meeting, and after a string of wins over the last couple weekends, expectations were high as the playoffs were now in the pictre. Now, it will be very difficult to qualify with just three games remaining.
The 18 Academy defeated Real 2-1. Goals by Reid Hukari and Abdoulie Jatta (Aimar) sealed the deal. The Rush Boys took the lead midway through half number one on a great serve from Jared Roberts that found 6'6" Hukari tower above the Real keeper to head it home. With 10 minutes remaining, and after both teams received erroneous red cards (the first and only red card for the Rush Boys this year), Real earned a penalty kick which they converted. So despite numerous chances created for the Rush Boys, the score was 1-1. As we entered the 90th minute however, a cross from Hukari was mishandled by the Real keeper and Aimar was there to pounce on it and thump home the winner.
With three games to go (to be played in Sarasota, FL on Memorial Day weekend), the Rush 18's have a 16-1-8 record which currently has them at number six in the country. Playoffs, which will be held in Greesboro, NC in late June, look to be a foregon conclusion for the Boys. But more work remains as the goal is to be national champions. Continued luck to both Academy teams!

Rush Academy Goes Perfect 4-0 on Mother's Day Weekend (Updated 5.13.10)
(93's First 11 vs KC Wizards)
(93's First 11 vs CO Rapids) Matt Marchena scored game winners on both Saturday and Sunday for the U16 Academy Boys from the penalty kick spot. Both victories were well deserved after the Rush Boys controlled the better part of both games (Saturday vs. Kansas City Wizards and Sunday vs. Colorado Rapids). Erich Marscheider earned the two shutouts.
(91's First 11 vs KC Wizards)
(91's First 11 vs CO Rapids) The 18 Boys were equally as impressive dominating their matches from start to finish. Alex Merrill earned the shut out on Saturday after goals were scored by Justin Miller in half one, and then followed up by second half goals from Baboucarr Jammeh (off a classy assist from Benny Glass) and Reid Hukari. 3-0. Note: KC is currently the only team to have beaten the Rush 18’s during a snow storm way back in February. The Rapids visited us at Colorado Christian University on Sunday. This time, the early goal came off a through ball by Matt Kerridge and was finished off nicely by Cole Chapleski (who celebrated by paying tribute to his mother on her special day). In half two, the Rush Boys poured it on with goals from Abdoulie Jatta, Paolo DelPiccolo and Alex Frazier. An injury time goal scored by the Rapids did not ruin the day. Rush win 4-1. This was the last home game for Rush, though the Boys play Real next Saturday at Heritage Park.

Rush Academy Boys Take Three Wins from Four Games Against Texas (Updated 05.07.10)
(93's First 11 vs Texas Rush)
(91's First 11 vs Texas Rush) Our Rush brethren from Texas went down 2-1 to our 16’s and 5-0 to our 18’s. (Both TX Rush teams did beat the Colorado Rapids on Sunday so congratulations to TX Rush.) After pressing the Texas back line, Colorado was rewarded by an own goal. After conceding an equalizer on a set piece, Cameron Mohseni was on target for the game winner. Seedy Bah (Deco) was the hat trick hero against the 18 TX Rush. Two goals from outside the box and another from close range (two off of volleys) set the tone. Baboucarr Jammeh (Mal) started the scoring off with a deflected free kick goal and Justin Miller capped off the scoring with a late goal off a counter attack.
 (93's First 11 vs Texans)
(91's First 11 vs Texans) Sunday it was the Houston Texans in town. The 18’s kicked off first on this day and the 18’s again jumped on their opponent after quality pressure (and assist) from Alex Frazier, Abdoulie Jatta (Aimar) sprung into attack beating one defender and rocketing a ball past the Texans keeper. After conceding the equalizer later in the first half, Reid Hukari would tower above the opponent and head home the game winner mid way through the second half. Aimar would put the nail in the coffin at the death. 3-1 win. After a spirited start, the 16’s could not maintain their form and gave up late goals in each half to lose 2-0 in the second match of the day.

FC Milwaukee and Chicago Sockers Visit Rush Academy (04.26.10)
(91's First 11 vs FC Milwaukee)
(93's First 11 vs FC Milwaukee) Three of the four games ended in draws. Only the U16 match on Saturday resulted in a disappointing Rush loss. The second game on Saturday saw the 18 Rush Boys dominate possession for the entire match, but a 0-0 score would be the final.
(91's First 11 vs Chicago Sockers)
(93's First 11 vs Chicago Sockers) 1-1 was the theme on Sunday as both games ended this way. Akio Ohtake-Gordon and Abdoulie Jatta scored goals on this day. Both tough games and fair results. The U18 Rush Boys still sit atop the division.
Chicago Opponents Prove to be Difficult Task at Home in a Weekend of Draws (04.19.10)
(91's First 11 vs Chicago Magic)
(93's First 11 vs. Chicago Magic) On Saturday, both Rush Academy teams tied their opponent, Chicago Magic, and both teams came from behind to do it. The 16’s/93’s gave up a first half goal (on yet another very windy day in the windy city…Chicago, not Denver!) but battled to ensure the deficit did not increase. Martin Shamala in half two took on the Magic defense, got to the end line and put in a very dangerous cross which was fortunately redirected into the Magic goal by their own player. Though a few other chances were created, none could be capitalized on. 1-1 was the final. For the third game in a row, the 91’s/18’s conceded a (converted) penalty kick. A second goal would follow to give the Magic 18’s a 2-0 half time lead. Though down two goals, the Rush Boys created many scoring chances. Then, partly aided by a Magic red card, the Rush Boys took over, outshooting the opponent 20-3, but only two goals could be mustered and both goals were scored in the final 12 minutes by Reid Hukari and Salman Bahurmoz (88th minute).
(91's First 11 vs. Chicago Fire)
(93's First 11 vs. Chicago Fire) On Sunday, the 16’s looked to be heading for a 0-0 draw until six minutes into injury time of the second half, when a penalty kick was awarded to the Chicago Fire. 1-0. Within two minutes the Rush Boys answered with a goal by Logan Bailey. Inexplicably, still another two minutes of time were played and in the 10th minute of injury time with the very last touch of the game, Fire found the back of the net again to win 2-1. The 18’s ended the weekend with another tough game and another big comeback. The game was well fought for 90 plus minutes, but Fire did hold more of the attacking play in the second half. Fire was rewarded when around the 70-75 minute mark, they found a seem through the Rush back line and took a 1-0 lead. Heading into the third minute of injury/stoppage time, Justin Miller dropped a ball back for Abdoulie Jatta who hit a sublime cross which bent in towards the back post area. As Rush and Fire players desperately crashed the goal, the last of the players on the back side was Seedy Bah who calmly slotted the ball past the Fire’s diving keeper. 1-1 was the final. Rush Academy is home this weekend at Colorado Christian University against FC Milwaukee and Chicago Sockers (Saturday and Sunday respectively).
Academy Boys Visit Great Lakes Region (04.12.10)
(91s Starting 11 vs Indiana United)
(93's Starting 11 vs Indiana Unites) Saturday the Rush boys took on Indiana United. Beautiful weather and a nice Turf field greeted the boys. The 93’s started the game in a very intense way. Their main attacking threats were the two wing players that were very fast and good 1v1. We managed to double team most of the time our transition from D to O was not fast enough. The real threat was a big man that was their target man in every set play. Second half the 93’s started well as we exploited their wings, unfortunately a big defensive mistake gave our opponent the chance to score an easy goal. We attacked and pressed our opponent in their half of the field, gaining confidence and several set plays out side of their box but we didn't take advantage of those opportunities. 93’s lost 1-0. The 91’s opponent was the defending USDA Champions. Very solid team with two wing players and a striker; all were very dynamic and fast. We were able to keep good ball possession and serve the ball behind their back line at the right moment. At 20' min, Aimar Jatta scored a very good goal after a very crafty pass by Reid Hukari, 1-0. In the Second half our opponent started very hard pressing our players, once in possession their wingers were always a threat. A pk was given for a handball in the box. United score. 1-1. Their pressure was a constant factor and we were not able to reorganize the midfield in a more compact defensive shield. After a couple of changes we were able to regain the control of their midfield and serve more balls to Aimar who was constantly a threat for their defenders. Towards the end of the game we had a couple of clear changes to ensure us the victory but we were unlucky. 1-1 tie.
(91's Starting 11 vs Ohio Elite)
(93's Starting 11 vs Ohio Elite) Sunday the Rush boys took on Ohio Elite. The 93’s intention was to press them in their half of the field an force them to make mistakes from which to take advantage. In one of these pressing the ball was cleared towards our goal, unfortunately a misunderstanding between our defender and our GK allowed our opponent striker to score an easy goal. The 93’s regrouped and after several good chances that developed from wing play, Matt Marchena equalized with a PK goal towards the end of the first half. Second half same story. We pressed them very hard and stole several important balls but our finishing was not good. Game ends in a 1-1 draw. Despite the final score the 91’s game was not easy, at least the 1st half. We kept ball possession for the whole time. Our opponent was only defending. Countless crosses were served from the wings but due to their GK in great shape, and our poor finishing as well, we were able to score only one time toward the end of the half with Justin Miller. 2 minutes later, a Rush foul gives up a PK. 1-1 at half. Second half we started with the confidence that we were the better team on the field and playing our soccer would sooner or later yield our victory. After we changed a couple of tired players, our chance to score arrived and we scored with Kenny Tribbett. With that goal, our opponent lost confidence and we took advantage scoring four more goals with: Seedy Bah had one, Aimar Jatta scored twice and Reid Hukari. Rush boys win 6-1.
Rush Academy Takes Four Points from Rapids (04.05.10) (93's Starting 11 vs. Rapids) (91's Starting 11 vs. Rapids) The Rush 93’s won 2-1 on goals from Matt Marchena and Akio Ohtake-Gordon. Just two minutes in Marchena hit a wonderful left footed volley from 18 yards out to get the Rush Boys off to a great start. Fourteen minutes later it was Akio with a short run with the ball followed by a booming shot which could not be kept out of the net by the Rapids keeper. The Rush Boys took a 2-0 lead into half time before giving up an own goal early in the second half. The Rapids pressed but the Rush Boys held strong and earned the valuable three points. The 91’s took one point from what must be deemed a disappointing draw. Multiple chances were created (including a penalty kick that was not converted) and a red card was handed to the Rapids late in half one. The Rush Boys controlled the entire game but could not beat the Rapids keeper and when they did, the crossbar and side posts were in the way. One foul led to the Rapids one and only shot of the second half which led to their one and only goal. Abdoulie Jatta scored the equalizer deep into injury time for the 1-1 draw. The Rush 91’s remain at the top of the table and the 93’s sit in second. Both teams travel to Indiana and Ohio this coming weekend.
Academy Boys Take on Chicago Fire, Magic (03.30.10)
(91's Starting 11 vs. Chicago Fire)
(93's Starting 11 vs. Chicago Fire) On a windy Saturday afternoon at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, Rush 93’s (U16) lost 1-0 to Chicago Fire. Rush played a solid first and went in to the break tied 0-0 after battling against the wind. A defensive lapse on a set piece led to a Fire goal early in the second half. Rush had several opportunities late in the match to get the equalizer, but couldn’t find the back of the net. In the second game, the 91’s (U18) were on the right side of a 1-0 game against the Fire. Baboucarr Jammeh (Mal) scored what proved to be the game winner on a wonderful, dipping free-kick late in the first half. The second half Rush battled the wind and a desperate Fire attack for nearly all 45 minutes. The defense remained organized and Famara Bojang (Baba) made some key saves as Rush held on for the 1-0 win.
(91's Starting 11 vs. Chicago Magic)
(93's Starting 11 vs. Chicago Magic) On a beautiful, but brisk Sunday morning, Rush 93’s started strong against Chicago Magic taking an early 1-0 lead off a Ridge Robinson goal. Ridge dribbled past several Magic defenders in the box and his shot from close range found the upper corner of the net. Rush took a 1-0 lead into half time. Some sloppy defending on a corner kick allowed Magic to equalize early in the second half. Rush had an opportunity to go up 2-1 with about 10 min remaining in the game, but Ridge Robinson’s pk was saved by the Magic goal keeper. The rebound fell right to the feet of Matt Marchena who slotted the ball home, but was whistled for entering the box too soon and the goal was called back. Rush kept attacking and were taken down two more times in the box, but the whistle was not blown. In the end, it was the Magic who was awarded a penalty kick with 2 minutes remaining in the game. Magic converted the pk and won 2-1. Once again, the 91’s (U18) started strong and immediately forced the opposing gk into action. The Magic gk was up to the task early, making some key saves. Late in the first half, Jared Roberts through ball found the feet of Abdoulie Jatta who raced past the Magic defense, then dribbled past the Magic gk, and tapped the ball into the open net. Against the run of play, Magic was able to score 2 second half goals midway through the half. With 10 minutes remaining in the game, Jatta scored his 11th goal of the season after beating several Magic defenders in the box and calmly slotting the ball past the sliding, Magic goal keeper. Rush continued to attack, but were unable to score the game winner and the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

Akio Ohtake-Gordon Returns from Injury and Makes Immediate Impact (03.24.10)
(91's Starting 11 vs. Real Colorado)
(93's Starting 11 vs. Real Colorado) A 2-0 victory for the Rush 93 Academy Boys over local rival, Real Colorado, was the story of the weekend. Akio Ohtake-Gordon was the hero with two follow up goals to secure the win. A fierce strike by Logan Bailey led to the first goal towards the end of the first half. The Real keeper simply could not handle the knuckling strike and Akio was there to bury the rebound. Another quality strike in the second half, this time by Johnny Sawyer, led to goal number two which sealed the win. Erich Marscheider secured the shut out for the Rush Boys. The second game of the day between the two U18 teams ended in a 0-0 draw. This was a very well contested match between two dangerous teams. With the weekend’s results, the Rush 93’s moved into a tie on points for first place and the Rush 91’s remain alone on top of the table. Stay tuned for information on this coming weekends home games with the Academy Boys.
A special thank you to all parents and staff who came out to help remove snow prior to kick off!

10 Points from Possible 13 for Academy Boys in St. Louis (03.14.10) (91's Starting 11 vs. SG Missouri) (93's Starting 11 vs. SG Missouri) The Rush Academy Boys earned a draw and a win on Sunday. The 93 Boys finished the weekend with a win and a draw and currently sit second in the league table with a 3-2-1 record (5-2-3 overall). Today a hard fought 0-0 draw would have to be enough as the Boys continue to be a difficult team to break down. Liam O’Connor earned the shutout in his first game with the Development Academy team. For the second day in a row the 91’s battled for a 3-2 win. Different than Saturday when they came back twice from a goal deficit, today’s game brought a new challenge when the Boys gave up their lead twice but ultimately persevered to achieve the win. Goals were scored by Baboucarr Jammeh, Abdoulie Jatta and Seedy Bah. The 93’s currently sit atop the Frontier Division with a 6-1 record (9-1 overall). Come support the Rush Boys (and wear your Rush blues and blacks) as they play in the local derby next Sunday against Real Colorado at Colorado Christian University. Kickoffs are at 1pm (93’s) and 3pm (91’s).
Academy Boys Secure Two Wins on Day One in St. Louis (03.13.10) (91's Starting 11 vs. SLSG Metro) (93's Starting 11 vs. SLSG Metro) The 93 Boys (U16) earned a 2-0 win today against Scott Gallagher Metro. A well deserved win saw the Rush Boys get an own goal after a Matt Marchena cross came from behind the Metro defense. Ridge Robinson cemented the three points with a late strike. The 91 Boys (U18) earned three points as well, but it came much harder. After conceding an early penalty kick, the Boys went down 1-0. Within seconds though, a sublime little chipped ball from Kenny Tribbett found the slashing Abdoulie Jatta who beat the keeper and slotted home the equalizer. 1-1 at the half. Another set piece, this time from a wide cross, would get Metro their second goal. Fifteen minutes later Jatta again was in the box to draw a foul. Seedy Bah stepped up to hit home the penalty kick that resulted. And it was a set piece for Rush which produced a short corner that Bah was able to head home for the third goal and eventual winner. The Boys will face off against Scott Gallagher-Missouri tomorrow at 9:45am and 11:45am.
Academy Boys Take 9 of 12 Points from Chicago/Milwaukee Games (03.08.10) (91's Starting 11 vs. Chicago Sockers) (93's Starting 11 vs. Chicago Sockers) Saturdays games were against Chicago Sockers. Fields were cleared of snow just in time to get both sets of games in. The 16’s kicked off first at 10am. The early run of play belonged to the Rush Boys, but midway through the first half, Chicago countered, scored and took the 1-0 lead. Rush answered shortly before half with a lovely dribble penetration by Emmanuel Martinez who slotted a touch-perfect pass to Johnny Sawyer. Unfortunately, with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game, the Sockers found their second goal and with it the game winner. The 18’s followed at noon and also started off solidly, but after a Rush player was tripped in Rush’s own box with no call, the ball fell to the foot of a Chicago player, and for the second game in a row, it was 1-0 to Chicago. But from then on, the Rush Boys took over, winning the game 3-1 getting goals from Abdoulie Jatta (2) and Baboucarr Jammeh. An excellent comeback victory with some very nice soccer displayed.
(91's Starting 11 plus Assistant Coach for the day, Scott Bushey, vs. FC Milwaukee) (93's Starting 11 vs. FC Milwaukee) Sundays games were played in Milwaukee against FC Milwaukee. The 16’s were anxious to rebound from Saturday’s disappointing result. A rejuvenated squad found the energy to fight and second half substitute, Matthew Marchena, hit home a wonderful bending free kick and that sealed the deal. 1-0 win! The 18’s did not start off on Sunday as well as they did the previous day, but it would not take long for things to get moving. Abdoulie Jatta (Aimar), once again got the Rush Boys off to a fine start in scoring with a 1v1 effort that ended with his fifth goal in three games. 1-0. In half two, Kenny Tribbett was on the end of a well played corner kick by Matt Kerridge, and put the Rush Boys up 2-0. Though a few late chances were squandered by the boys, it did not take away from the solid performance that ultimately resulted in a 2-0 win. The Rush Boys sit atop the Frontier Division with a 4-1 record (6-1 Overall). Next week, the two teams travel to St. Louis for two matches each.
Academy Boys Finish Weekend Undefeated and Secure Two More Wins on Sunday (03.01.10) (93's Starting 11) (91's Starting 11) Following the win and draw against Scott Gallagher Missouri on Saturday, were two wins against Scott Gallagher Metro on Sunday. Erich Marscheider kept another clean sheet for the U16 Rush Boys. Julio Chavez started the scoring with a first half goal. As the second half began, the Rush Boys began to slowly take the game over. Justin Young scored the second and Ridge Robinson the third, both after stellar individual efforts. The 18 Boys were up next and it took all of three minutes before Abdoulie Jatta (Aimar) deftly pushed the ball around the Metro center back and then rocketed a shot past their GK for a 1-0 lead. Shortly after it was Seedy Bah’s (Deco) turn to ever-so precisely redirect a wonderful header to the far post. Kenny Tribbett added two goals of his own, both off of corners and one with his head and one with his feet. Aimar added his second with an absolute corker and the score at the half was 5-0. The game ended 5-1 and Rush conceded a penalty kick midway through the second half. The Rush Academy Boys are scheduled to travel to Chicago and Milwaukee next weekend. For Video higilights against Scott Gallagher Metro, click here. Once again, a special thank you to the U14 Nike Boys for their help as ball boys.
Academy Boys Take Four Points from Scott Gallagher (MO) (02.27.10)
 (93's starting 11)
 (91's starting 11)
A beautiful February day (finally!) welcomed in a tough Frontier Division opponent. The 93’s kicked off the day with a 0-0 result against a very difficult opponent from St. Louis. Christian Nicolosi was in goal for the Rush Boys to secure the shut out. The second game of the day was equally as difficult with neither team creating too many great chances. Babuocarr Jammeh found the winner as the clock hit 90 minutes with a follow up header which caromed off of the underside of the crossbar. Famara Bojang was in goal for the shut out. Both teams play SG Metro tomorrow, also from St. Louis. Kick off times are 9am and 11am at Englewood High School.
Special Thanks to Ball Boys from U11, U12 and U14 Boys Most venues don’t have the support of their younger teams like Rush does. Today, the boys pictured below came out to not only watch and learn but to contribute in the Academy experience. Great job fellas!

A Winter Storm Takes the Headlines for Rush Academy’s First Games of Season (02.22.10) (93's Starting 11) (91's Starting 11) The Academy games were scheduled for Sunday, but with the threat of terrible winter weather including wind, snow and freezing rain for Sunday, games were forced in on Saturday. With the change unfortunately, and the winter weather moving in early, two losses for Rush also came on Saturday. Here was the schedule for the boys on Saturday February 20: Meet at airport at 8am for 10:15am departure. After mechanical issues, change of plane and de-icing, that became a 12:15pm departure. Arrival in Kansas City at 2:30pm for a 5pm kick off. Due to Budget only having one of our three 12 passenger vans available, we had to go to Avis to get replacements. Due to this delay, the boys ate at the airport. A snowy 45 minute drive got us to the fields at 4:45pm. The 93’s kicked off at 5:15pm. The 91’s were able to rest for two hours before their 7:15pm kick off. Both games were played on a snow covered pitch and amidst snow and freezing rain. Both teams played admirably and with great attitude. Three errors (two due purely to snowy conditions) became three goals against for the 93’s. Two deflected shots which originally had no chance of scoring, ended up in the back of the net for the 91’s, after taking a 1-0 lead through a Reid Hukari penalty after Justin Miller earned the foul in the box. The experience, though difficult, may prove vital as the boys grow. The Rush Academy feels good heading into their first home games this coming weekend against two St. Louis teams. Stay tuned for details!

With the first two years of the US Development Academy almost complete the Colorado Rush has exemplified what it takes to be successful at this level. Well done to both players and coaches! |
Rush Academy Boys Fall Short (06.30.09)
Needing a win to secure their spot at nationals, the Rush Academy Boys ran out of steam and lost to Andromeda (Dallas, TX) 3-0. The Rush Boys had an early opportunity with an open volley in the box but could not convert. A few minutes later Nick Brant had broken through for a 1v1, but was pulled down from behind and his 1v1 turned into a free kick from 35 yards out. These became a sign of things to come. A late first half goal for the Texas team sealed the fate for the Rush Boys. A disappointing game and disappointing result for sure. This should not however take away from a wonderful season. The Boys finished as Frontier Division Champions (back to back Division Champions) and a 21-5-7 record. Congratulations to them on a very good year. |
Academy Boys On Top of Group after Win vs. Met Oval (NY) (06.29.09)
Johnny Rabadan scored in the 84th minute after Nick Brant flicked on a Morgan Sacco free kick. Just a few minutes earlier, Rush suffered a red card to go down one man in what was already a very intense game. The Boys stayed calm though and focused on the task at hand for nothing else but a win would keep the hopes of nationals alive. With the 1-0 result, Rush sits on top of a very tough group. A win on Monday will seal a trip to nationals. |
Academy Boys Draw 1-1 in Game One of Playoffs (06.29.09)
(starting 11 vs FC Greater Boston, above)
(Zach Foxhoven in action, above) Paolo DelPiccolo scored in the fifteenth minute of play, but one moment of sloppy soccer opened the door for FC Greater Boston to get the equalizer. Though conceding few chances and creating many, the Rush Boys exit game one with a disappointing draw and go into day two with what amounts almost to a “must win” game against Met Oval from New York. Kick off is at Noon eastern time. |
Rush 90 Academy Boys Division Champions! (06.25.09) In one of the more difficult divisions in the country, Colorado Rush 90 Academy Boys finished on top of the Frontier Division in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Finishing with a 10-1-5 record (dropping their very last game), the Rush Boys enter the play offs as a top eight seed in the country. The Boys travel to Greensboro, NC this weekend to play group stages of the play offs where they will face FC Greater Boston, Met Oval (NY) and Andromeda (North TX) who were USYS national champions last year. If the Rush finish on top of their group, they will be one of eight teams to qualify for the national tournament which will be held in two weeks time in L.A. The Rush Boys finished their 30 game season with a 20-4-6 record. Good luck to them in Greensboro! |
Rush Academy Boys Win at Real (06.11.09)
3-0 in less than 25 minutes was not how most people saw this pivotal match between the Rush Boys (currently number one in division) and Real Colorado (currently number two in division) beginning. However, after Zack Foxhoven, Nick Brant and Jorge Reza struck with unanswered goals, that is exactly what happened. When Foxhoven scored a direct free kick in the first couple minutes of half two, most thought the game was over at 4-0. Just a few minutes later however, a red card for Rush and penalty kick for Real brought some to question. Ten minutes later when both teams received a red card, people were not sure what to expect. But playing 9 vs. 10, the Rush Boys remained disciplined and at the end of the day, remained at the top of the division with a 4-1 victory. The Rush Boys finish with two tough home matches on June 16 and 17 against the Chicago Fire and Chicago Sockers. Stay tuned for more information on these important division match ups. |
Rush Academy Boys Win Four of Six (06.08.09)
 (90 Academy vs Magic, above)
(92 Academy vs Scott Gallagher, above) The 92 Boys beat Scott Gallagher (MO) but dropped two close games to SG Metro and Chicago Magic in important divisional match ups. The 90’s played the same three teams in the same four days and managed to come away with three victories and stay on top of the Frontier Division. The 92’s have the week off while the 90’s play an important game with Real Colorado on Wednesday night at Heritage Turf field at 7:30pm. |
92’s Go Perfect in Sarasota (05.25.09)
(starting 11 vs Mustang SC, above)
(starting 11 vs FC Portland, above)
(starting 11 vs Miami FC, above) For the first time this season, the Rush 92’s put together back to back to back victories over teams from Northern California, Portland and today the win came at the expense of a talented Miami FC team. Ridge Robinson earned the goal after a quality run to the near post and found himself on the end of a cross by Justin Miller. Both goal keepers (Erich Marscheider and Jacob Lissek) came up with big saves to secure the result. A great weekend for the 92’s who now enter the home stretch of their Academy season with six important divisional matches. |
Rush Academy Teams Undefeated After First Three Days (05.25.09)
(starting 11 vs Atlanta Fire, above)
(starting 11 vs AFC Lightning, above) The 92 Rush Boys got things off to a great start by defeating Cal-North’s Mustangs 1-0 on day one. Day two was their day off, but it was the opening day for the Rush 90’s who also earned a 1-0 result over the Atlanta Fire. Day three had both Rush teams playing and again the 92’s, after a goal in the opening 10 seconds and then suffering a red card in the 30th minute, went on to a 2-0 win over FC Portland. The 90’s capped off day three with a 3-0 result over AFC Lightning from Georgia. Day four represents a day off for the 90’s as well as the final game for the 92’s as they face Miami FC. The 90’s will play Concorde Fire, also from Atlanta on Tuesday. |
90 Academy Boys Get Draw and Win to Stay on Top of Division
(05.14.09)
 (starting 11 vs Magic, above)
(starting 11 vs Fire, above) This past weekend our Rush Academy Boys travelled to the windy city of Chicago to play some important division matches. The 90 Boys tied Chicago Fire and defeated the Chicago Magic 3-0 with some wonderful goals supplied by Nick Brant, Zack Foxhoven and Morgan Sacco. The four points from the two games keeps the Rush Boys atop the Frontier Division. This coming weekend, the Rush Academy Boys travel back to the windy city to compete against FC Milwaukee and Chicago Sockers for two more, very important, academy division match ups.

Rush 90 Academy Boys Win 3-1 over Texas SC (05.04.09)
(90 Academy, above) After conceding a stoppage time goal in the first half of Saturday’s US Development Academy game, the Rush Boys rebounded by earning a penalty kick a minute and a half into half two. After Paolo DelPiccolo converted the spot kick, the Rush Boys took off. Ten minutes later, it was DelPiccolo’s free kick that was ferociously whipped in and found the diving head of Zach Davis. A wonderful free kick goal! Five minutes after that, a ball played through by Corey Schulz was misplayed by the Texas goal keeper and Zack Foxhoven was on the hunt and scored the third. The Rush Boys improve to 11-3-2 prior to taking on Texas Rush on Sunday. |

Rush Academy Suffers Losses on Saturday but Rebounds on Sunday (04.07.09)
 (90 Academy, above, 04.05.09)
 (92 Academy, above, 04.05.09)
 (90 Academy, above, 04.04.09)
(92 Academy, above, 04.04.09) After dropping two games on one day for the first time all season, the Rush Academy Boys answered the call with a draw (for the 92’s) and a win (for the 90’s) on Sunday against Vardar. The Michigan Derby County Wolves came into snowy Colorado and earned two hard fought victories against our Rush Boys on Saturday. Unfortunately for Vardar (also of Michigan), the Rush Boys don’t take losing well and losing another game on this weekend would not be acceptable. The 92’s tied 0-0 and the 90’s won 5-1 with two goals from Zack Foxhoven. Perhaps the highlight of the weekend was the 92 Academy starting a U15 player, Akio Ohtake-Gordon and a U14 player, Oscar Montes. For Ozzie, born in 1995, this meant competing with players who were three years his senior. Both players started and played a major role in the Rush 92’s earning a draw. These players participating in such a big game is another example of Rush’s commitment to player development.
The 90 Rush Academy sits on top of the Frontier Division in the Central Conference with a 4-0-2 record in division and a 10-3-2 record overall.

Academy Parents Show Players Example of Team and Unity (04.06.09)

Both Saturday and Sunday morning for the Academy Parents was not spent enjoying their morning coffee and reading the news paper. Instead, it was filled with back-breaking work shoveling snow at Englewood High School Stadium, all so our Academy Boys could have the best opportunity to play quality matches against two clubs from Michigan which made the long trek to Colorado. Both mornings we had over 30 parents (and DOC Staff members) with shovels in hand and wheel barrows to boot. A special thank you to all parents who contributed and helped ensure the Michigan clubs were treated well and that the games could go on with almost no impact from Mother Nature. |
Second Day in St. Louis Yields Same Results for Rush Boys but Different Weather (03.30.09)
 (90 Academy. above)
(92 Academy. above) After dealing with a wind and rain storm on day one of the trip, the Rush 92’s had the wind again, but this time instead of rain they faced the snow. An inch of snow was on the field at kick off, and hosts Scott Gallagher - Missouri (as if they had never seen snow before) were without a plow or even a shovel. The conditions led to a somewhat sloppy first half, but no goals. Tired legs allowed the field to get a bit more stretched and the St. Louis boys took advantage by creating some space on the width and serving to an open player at the far post for the first and only goal. Though the Rush Boys created a few half chances, the equalizer they could not find. 1-0 was the final and a disappointing result after playing some very promising soccer the night before. The quick turnaround and the short night would also impact the Rush 90’s but they were still able to put together some quality soccer moments. Most of the snow had cleared by the 90’s kick off and incredibly, though the wind remained (though today it was side to side as opposed to end to end), the sun actually peaked out a few times in this match. Against the run of play, Gallagher scored in the first minute of the second half on an own goal. Zack Foxhoven equalized before the five minute mark however and then Foxhoven scored a go ahead goal ten minutes later. Scott Gallagher would in turn score an equalizer with about 10 minutes remaining. As time ticked away, Paolo DelPiccolo hit a free kick that the keeper could not handle and Reid Hukari followed up with the game winner! There was time for one more goal however as in injury time, Foxhoven earned his hat trick. 4-2 was the final. Congratulations to the Rush 90’s for a successful divisional road trip. |
Rush Academy Boys Split in St. Louis Blizzard (03.30.09)
 (90 Academy. above)
(92 Academy. above) Well, not quite the blizzard that we experienced here in Denver on last Thursday, but in some of the worst conditions Rush has played in for quite some time; in 30 degree temperatures, strong winds and hard rains, the Rush Boys fought against Scott Gallagher Metro. The 92’s after taking the lead on a late first half penalty earned by Nick Black and converted by Ridge Robinson, gave up three unanswered goals in half two to lose 3-1. The conditions played a large role, but even with the loss, the Rush 92’s played some of their best soccer of the year. The 90’s scored their first goal (and the game winning goal) after some excellent hard work by Thadious Fisher to hunt down a ball, keep possession and to find Morgan Sacco who in turn found Johnny Rabadan for an absolute piece of magic on the end line. Johnny’s cross proved too much for the SG Metro defense to deal with as it was turned into their own goal. The Rush 90’s dominated the first half with some real class. As the second half began, both the wind and the rain seemed to pick up one more notch. Every forward pass seemed to be a bouncing, skipping, terrorizing ball that put the Rush defense under pressure. But time and time again, the Rush defense dealt with it, turned it around and played soccer going the other way. A wonderful balance of class and grit saw Rush to victory 1-0 in a tough divisional match. |
Rush Academy Teams Take on Dallas Texans Soccer Club (03.18.09)
 (90 Academy. above)
(92 Academy, above) Despite leading for most of the game, the Rush 92 Academy Boys came away with just one point after tying the Texans on Sunday. Kenny Tribett scored the lone Rush goal off of a great free-kick early in the first half. The Rush were unable to keep the lead as the Texans equalized on a pk midway through the second half. The Rush 90’s had their 8-game unbeaten streak snapped on Sunday. A slow start led to two early goals by the Texans. Just before half, substitute Zack Foxhoven, drew a foul outside the penalty box. Paolo Delpiccolo’s bending free-kick found the back of the net and cut the deficit to just one. A red card forced the Rush to play the final 30 min with just 10 players. Despite playing a man down, the Rush had several quality opportunities, but just could not get the equalizer. The 90’s left Texas with a win and a loss. |
Rush Academy teams take on Solar Soccer Club (03.16.09)
 (90 Academy, above)
(92 Academy, above) One week after some disappointing home results, the Rush Academy Boys travelled to Dallas, Texas to face Solar and the Texans. The Rush Boys responded well on Saturday with a draw and win vs Solar. After a scoreless first half, the Rush 92’s took a 1-0 lead off of a classy goal by Ridge Robinson. Dominic Pacheco beat his defender and served a quality cross into the penalty box. Robinson calmly brought the ball down, beat a defender, and slotted the ball into the corner of the net. The Rush was unable to hold onto the lead and gave up the equalizer with about 20 min remaining in the game. The Rush 90’s extended their unbeaten streak to 8 consecutive games (6 wins and 2 draws). Zack Foxhoven scored the only goal of the first half off of a nice feed from Ben Glass. Solar equalized three minutes into the second half. The Rush Boys played the final 20 minutes of the match with 10 men after Jared Roberts received his second yellow card of the game. Just when you thought the game would end in a 1-1 draw, Foxhoven struck again for his 12th goal of the campaign. The Rush Boys will face the Texans on Sunday before heading back to Denver. |
Rush Academy Drops Valuable Points in Division Match (03.08.09)
 (90 Academy, above)
(92 Academy, above) A beautiful day for soccer did not yield the best of results for the Rush Boys this past Sunday at the Air Force Academy. After having a header cleared off the goal line and a missed 1v1 opportunity, the Rush 92’s conceded a first half goal on a well-played through ball by their Real opponents. Though the Rush Boys were able to create opportunities, they were not able to take advantage of those opportunities and 1-0 was the final. For the 90 Rush Boys, their first half display was amongst the best soccer played this season, and after some quality passing and wonderful patience, it was Corey Schulz who reaped the rewards with an excellent half volley from 20 yards out to put the Rush Boys up 1-0. That lead held up until the 88th minute, when after a give away at midfield, Real countered and the equalizing goal was the result. 1-1 was the final. The Rush Academy boys travel to Dallas, Texas this coming weekend. |
Red Cards Impact Academy Games Against Rapids But 90 Rush Boys Earn 2-1 Victory (3.2.09)
 (90 Academy, above)
(92 Academy, above) Ten days after defeating the Colorado Rapids 1-0, the 92 Rush Boys lost 0-2 to the Rapids after receiving a first half red card. Though playing most of the game down a player, the Rush Boys created numerous scoring chances but were unable to capitalize. And after conceding a heart-breaking goal in their first encounter to allow the Rapids to tie the game, the 90 Rush Boys took their revenge today with a 2-1 win. Again, forced to play a man down for over a third of the game, the Rush Boys this time did not break and the win was secured. The 90’s remain undefeated in their all important divisional play. The 92’s fall to 1-1-1 in division. |
Rush Academy Takes Four Points from FC Milwaukee (2.27.09)
 (90 Academy, above)
(92 Academy, above) Both Rush Academy teams remain undefeated in divisional play after earning a draw and a win on Thursday night. The 92’s (U16) after dominating the first half of play allowed one shot to change the game. With five minutes remaining, a deflected shot found its way in the Rush net after Kenny Tribbett had given the Rush boys the early lead. In the 8:30pm game, Zack Foxhoven got the first of his two goals with a wonderful run up the left side and ultimately slipping it past the Milwaukee keeper. Cole Chapleski put the nail in the coffin in the dying minutes. The final was 3-0. Both Academy teams take on the Colorado Rapids Academy on Saturday the 28th at the Air Force Academy at 11am and 1pm (92’s and 90’s respectively). |
Come Support the Rush Academy Teams! (2.23.09) The Academy boys played their first games of the season here in Colorado last week and captured a win and draw against cross town competitors Colorado Rapids. This Thursday, FC Milwaukee flies in to play your Colorado Rush. On Saturday the 28th, the Rush Boys play the Rapids again to see who the best in Colorado is. FOLLOWING THE 18 ACADEMY BOYS AT NATIONALS (7.16.07) The Colorado Rush Academy team played the Baltimore Bays on Wednesday at the Home Depot Center. Needing a win to play in the Championship match Rush played a team that won their previous two games. Baltimore got on the score sheet first in the 7th minute after a bad clearance and a first time shot. Rush tied the score on a similar play when Zack Foxhoven picked up a loose ball and finished his chance. Baltimore went ahead with 15 minutes remaining and secured their spot in the final. Rush will play Columbus Crew on Friday 6:30 MST on ESPNU.
FOLLOWING THE 18 ACADEMY BOYS AT NATIONALS (07.14.07) The U18 Rush Academy boys followed their 1-1 draw on day one with a 4-0 pounding of the Chicago Fire. Morgan Sacco kicked off the scoring after a great run from Ben Souma and a pin point pass by Paolo Delpiccolo. Benny followed up with two goals of his own to put the Rush boys up 3-0 at half. The quality continued in the second half and Delpiccolo again was the set up man, this time for Danny Whittle. These boys continue to play attractive soccer and some of the best attacking soccer here. On Wednesday, Rush will play the Baltimore Bays with the winner securing a place in the finals and a match televised on ESPN 2. |
Rush Players Looking Like Pros Versus the “Professional Club” (07.12.08) Please read the attached article written after our 18 boys played the Chicago Fire. Click here.
Day One: Zack Foxhoven subbed in at half time with the game 0-1. Moments after a great individual run, it was a wonderful combination with Foxhoven and Morgan Sacco that led to Foxhoven calmly slotting home the equalizer. Unfortunately, some very creative soccer could not create the second goal even though it did create several opportunities. 1-1 was the final. Tomorrow is a day off. Monday, the Rush Boys will face the Chicago Fire. |
A Special Afternoon (05.05.08)
Our U16 and U18 Academy boy’s teams had their first official home games this past weekend at Dick’s Sporting Good’s Park. In the end, it was a very good weekend of soccer as our club went 3-0-1 in our four games against the La Jolla Nomads and the San Diego Surf. And though there was some very good and intense soccer played, the true highlight might have been prior to the first ball even getting kicked. Kate Russell, a member of the U18 Nike Girls, and her father Gordon sang our national anthem beautifully. What made it all the more beautiful is that Gordon is a Captain in our Navy and less than 24 hours later; Gordon was on a plane heading to Baghdad, Iraq. Captain Gordon Russell will be away for the next 15 months. We feel incredibly fortunate that both Kate and Gordon blessed us with their talents and spent their very valuable time with us. Our club sends our very best wishes to Gordon and his mission. Learn more about Kate by visiting the U18 Nike Girls team page. Click here to go to the U18 Nike Girl's Page |
